Monsters and How To Equip – Tips
Aberrant specters are heavy magic attack so wear dragon hide armour. You must wear a nose peg or they will decrease your stats immediately. You won’t be able to use mage to tele out if they do, so take a tele tab, ecto vial, or elf crystal just in case.
Abyssal Demon – great melee training! Once you can do them for slayer – wow! Just take good food, armour and weapon. High alk runes may be handy since these drop some really good things besides the abyssal whip. It has a weakness for silverlight but no need to use that instead of a whip or drag weapon.
Aquanites – These don’t hit hard if you wear protect from magic. Take a bunyip. Aquanites drop a lot of raw swordfish/lobsters and the scrolls of a bunyip let you eat them. Range seems very effective on them but so is a whip. If you use prayer with them, keep an eye on them because they will turn off your prayer every now and then.
Black Demons – these are great combat training but they don’t drop much that will help with another skill except slayer. They are quick xp if you use melee. Use protect from melee and you can do a whole lot more in one run. Good magic training or range training, too, with the safe spot by the air orb altar ladder. Just sort of boring.
Bloodvelds need protect from mage gear – black dragon armour is very good. You need to wear the nose peg if you use the shortcut that takes you up to the Aberrant Specters first. Those dang bloodvelds are ugly and they hit hard when you aren’t equipped properly.
Cave Horrors -Weakness: Witchwood icon.
Wear dragonhide armor because these are mage based melee. Take a good light source and tinder if necessary.
Dark Beasts ….. You have to go into West Ardougne in complete mourner’s outfit and nothing else equipped first to get into the bigger building north of the gate and then down the trap door. You can only wear the 6 pieces of mourner gear. You will need a new key from the room south of the gate that leads to the tracks – search the desk. Take tele to Ardougne and maybe a home tele tab if your combat isn’t on the higher end. Take a good weapon, prayer pots or super restore pots and wear stuff that spins out your prayer a bit. Or just keep wearing the mourner clothes. Take the holy wrench and a unholy prayer book. Use protect from melee and stand close to the beasts so they can’t hit with magic.
Dragons – all colors and metals…… Antifire pots and antifire shields are the best defense. Use proselyte armour (as good as adamant armour!) and the protect from melee prayer except for the brutal greens which still hit you even through protect from magic and best armour. (They are ALSO immune to poison.) While ranging, use best range gear but take an anti-dragon breath shield when you run out to grab your drop or have to run past the dragons.
Goraks Use the Fairy Ring Co-ords DIR. You will get more xp fighting them controlled. Prayers do not work against them and they drain random stats when they hit. Super stat restore would be helpful. Taking high alk would be helpful as well. Wear good armour and bring good weapon, plus food. Stay close to the fairy ring and zip out if you need to.
Infernal Mages Wear dragonhide armour and increase defense against mage with any extra gear you have. Take the Sara prayer book if you have it. (Quest cape does not increase prayer defense because it is not trimmed.)
Jellies are also mage based melee so wear dragon hide armour. They hit high without and nearly nothing with mage protection.
Killerwatts You need insulated boots, because the thunder clouds will kill you fast without them. It starts in a ball form but changes into a form with arms and legs when you attack it. It attacks with range when you are farther away and melee when you are close when you attack. Wear dragonhide armor to reduce the amount of damage you receive.
Kurasks These are almost the same as Turoths – you need a Leaf-Bladed Spear, Broad Arrows, or Slayer’s Staff. You can’t hold a shield with the spear. The Staff uses 4 minds to one death rune. These can drop items like white mystic robe tops, notes flax, tooth half or shield half but don’t drop seeds. Kurasks give 97 slayer points and are combat level 106.
Molanisks are in the Dorgesh-Kaan caves. This is a must… take a good light source or they will attack you and you won’t be able to fight. You need a Slayer bell to kill these. An interesting drop is the mole claw (also dropped by giant moles under Falador) which you take to Wyson the Gardener in exchange for a Bird’s Nest. Use fairy ring coordinates AJQ.
Nechryaels use melee and they will summon “Undead Spawns”. Keep the Nechryaels between those little nippers and yourself and you will take a lot less hits. Once your Nechryael is dead, leave the spawn behind – they don’t drop anything good and give little xp really. There is a safe spot behind the table so you can also Range, Mage, or use a Halberd.
The Phoenix You can go back into the cave to do The Phoenix Lair Distractions and Diversions daily. Be prepared! Take auto-retaliate off so you don’t get yanked to other guards. You’ll need secateurs, a knife, and a tinderbox – you can’t use your magic secateurs. Just get the twigs in each cave and get to the next as quick as possible. Those guards hit hard and together. There are three combat style guards – protect from Melee, Range and Magic as specific to the guard hitting you. Take good food and good armour – a home tele tab is a nice emergency out. You can’t get past the guard if it it standing in the tight path so you have to kill it to get by. You have to go through all the levels to the Phoenix. Then kill the the Phoenix as well. These are rough fights too – really exciting. Keep protect from magic on while you fight the Phoenix throughout.
Skeletal Wyvern Use the Elemental or Mind Shield, good melee armour and protect from magic. Take food but the shield will be your best defense against them. They do hit 56s if you don’t have one equipped. Bunyips and a Dragonfire shield are especially helpful! The Dragonfire is by far better than the other two shields – if you have one. (Alternate – wear heavy Magic defense, use protect from Melee, and use a whip.)
Spirtual Mages Prayer armour and protect from magic prayer is the best way to start equipping. You also need a Saradom and a Zamorak item – so a holy symbol and a red prayer book are good. A trimmed cape will help with prayer. Take a super restore pot to recover from the snow area on the way and a few prayer pots. Also the holy wrench will help. They don’t drop any charms.
Turoths First of all, you need a Leaf-Bladed Spear, Broad Arrows, or Slayer’s Staff. You can’t hold a shield with the spear. The Staff uses 4 minds to one death rune. These can drop a lot of good seeds and other good items like tooth half or shield half. The 89s give 81 slayer and the 87s give 79 slayer xp.
Vyrewatch You have to have the Ivandis Flail because it’s the only weapon that will kill them. No need to use the charges though – they will attack and don’t even try to get away so you would be wasting it. They hit with melee so wear melee armour. Prayer isn’t necessary. They are in Meiyrditch and Burgh de Rott – you have to take the short cut behind the ghost bar, to the bridge and then the boat – then on to the Burgh and Meiyrditch.
Warped Tortoises drop noted coal, noted mithril ore, rune warhammer, rune pickaxes, unnoted addy ore, tortoise shells, perfect tortoise shells (untradeable),some charms, and big bones. They don’t seem to hit hard so use good armour and basic food – 10 or so monks or shark. You need to use the crystal chimes on them first. Plan on banking a lot by just running back out to the spirit tree. They are in the Mountains East of Poison Wastes (use spirit tree) area to the west. The perfect tortoise shells can be sold to Barlak in Dorgesh-Kaan for 600 gp and 500 crafting XP. The regular shells are used for making the war tortoise familiar.
Warped Terrorbirds will only succumb to the Crystal Chimes, as all the Warped creatures do. Wear ear muffs if you can’t make the slayer helmet to reduce the effects of range attacks. Heavy melee armour and protect from Range. Take a lot of food – you can take a familiar, so decide if you want a beast of burden or a bunyip. If you go all the way to the end of the dungeon, there it a spot where there is only one terrorbird and it’s much easier to work on just one attacking you at a time. They stop ranging pretty quickly so don’t worry about using a lot of prayer.
Waterfiends are one of the best monsters for dropped charms. Use something blunt, like a blessed anchor or Saradomin sword. Wear dragon hide armour and use protect from range (Note – Feb. 2009 – Protect from Magic worked better). Take prayer or super stat restore – and a tele home tab. Only trimmed skill capes help prolong prayer. They are aggressive and can’t be poisoned. (If you need the anchor fixed, go to Most ‘le Harmless with 230k and the book o’ Piracy and talk to the smith on the jetty.) Use the games necklace to Barbarian Outpost and jump into the whirlpool. You can not take a summoned familiar in there but you can summon a familiar once you are inside. You can use a dueling ring to leave, unless you are using another ring.
Zygomite Use melee/range/magic! At first they are fungi near the cosmic altar in Lost City. They turn to Zygomite when picked. Use a loaded Fungicide spray (buy one spray and a few reloads from slayer master) to kill them, which can be done when you’ve hit at least 58 damage. Wear Dragon hide or other armour that protects from mage. They drop a lot of strawberry seeds sometimes.
Extra notes:
No matter what you are fighting, if they are aggressive, take a one click tele of some kind. The ecto vial, elf crystal, or tele tab. The house tele tab is probably the best for emergencies because if you tele to your house when you are dying, you will not lose your items, even if you have been skulled. It works up to level 20 wildy just as a rune tele does.
(Quest cape does not increase prayer defense because it is not trimmed.)
