Updates Delayed – Time To Prepare For New Skill

Jagex announced that it has delayed (what seems to be) a big update due to glitches in the game engines and will be releasing the update next week. At first, I was sort of disappointed but, after that Massacre in Falador following the release of the new Construction Skill, better to be late that all messed up!

The point is, Jagex has said that there will be a new skill this year – I don’t know if the update they are having problems with is the skill, a quest or some other update. They have stated that the new skill will be for both free and members. That strange force random was experienced by free players and members on all worlds – so it is safe to play with the idea that the strange random was a hint about the new skill (but that is not any inside info).

In general, whether the new skill is coming out this week or next month, I’m doing a lot of things to try to be prepped for it. (Jagex did say it will be coming out soon and in the Runescape Q&A, Mod Mark H does say it’s coming out very soon – among a ton of other things.)

I am working on an eHow article about it and will add the link when I get it up later today. It goes into more detail. It will be called How To Prepare For The Release Of A New Skill On Runescape! (I finished it and waited for it to be approved…. Smiling!)
Basically –
*Start clearing out some bank space.
*Don’t buy anything you don’t have to so you can keep a decent amount of gp on hand.
*Save everything you come across because you never know what might be needed – unless it’s something you can buy up at the general store or the Recipe For Disaster Bank Chest.
*If you are close to a level, especially a 99, go for it and get it done.
*Don’t sell anything you have in big supply until after you know what you will need.
*Don’t buy anything on speculation – you don’t know what you will need yet.

I remember one guy almost crying about cutting mahoganies and teaks for weeks in anticipation of the release of Construction……….. then I bet he was upset that he needed lower logs to start working on the skill and wouldn’t need those better logs until he was way up in levels. Not only that, it ended up being expensive to get those better logs made into planks. Even now, at level 93, I avoid using mahogany and teaks when I work on Construction with the only exception being upgrading things in rooms as a permanent upgrade. I only work on oak larders and the teak displays as a looping xp chore to get the levels.

On the other hand, as soon as Farming tools and seeds were made available, Runescape warned everyone to wait to buy anything until later. Yet people were paying millions of gp for secateurs and farming boots. Does anyone actually use those farming boots? I had a pair for a little while but they didn’t do much of anything.

Personally, I pushed to get that Mining 99 because I heard the rumors (just like everybody else) about a new skill coming. I also got a Range level (97) using the Soul Wars 100 Zeal points bonus, (70 zeal points came from Nomad’s Requiem), and a bit of extra ranging to finish about 100k of the level. Since I was using a Slayer assignment to make it more worthwhile than ranging whatever was convenient, when I finished that assignment, I noticed I had hacked off a lot of xp toward 98 Range. Ever anxious to take advantage of an advantage, I am now seriously working on Range and have gotten it under 800k to Level 98, from 1.113 million xp – whew! Of course, a great side benefit is that I am getting a lot closer to a Slayer level as well.

I’m not going to buy or sell much of anything unless it’s something I’m making a ton of anyway, like Granite Lobsters when I get to working on a Summoning level – which I might do a bit of to break the ranging monotony………. I also have a massive amount of battlestaffs without air orbs – sigh – again! So I might do those or save the molten glass………. shrugs….. it’s all a coin toss at the moment.

I am avoiding using up supplies though – I have a bunch of cut dragon stones just in case whatever is coming out lets us make something new with them. I’m also keeping a stock of higher than sapphire gems – you never know. I am even resisting the urge to use the stockpile of herbs in the bank – actually doing the exact opposite, picking up lower herbs and saving them.

Also –
Primefalcon discovered that if you wear heavy Magic defense, use protect from Melee, and use a whip – it’s the best defense against Skeletal Wyverns.

Soapbox shouting here – To all those who are whining about no update this week ….. Knock it off! Geeeeeeeeeeez, Runescape is trying hard to get stuff done. Don’t forget, they do NOT have to give us any updates! We pay a fee for members if we want to do the extras that free people can’t do. Free players don’t pay anything. Runescape and their team want to do updates every week – heck, I bet they’d do two a week if they could! The more they give us, the happier we are, the bigger they get, and the more they can afford to work on stuff to give us more – the happier everyone is! So for everyone complaining on the forums, and wherever else they are venting about the lack of an update once in a while, I’d bet there are some pretty upset Jagex people out there because that update couldn’t get released, too!

Personally, I think that Jagex should outright state that there will no longer be weekly updates – maybe even say there will be bi-monthly or monthly updates. Then, when they do release extra updates once in a while, think how happy and surprised everyone would be! I love surprises! Don’t you?

Back to Ranging for me……….
As Prime says to me occasionally, and I’ve forcefully suggested that he keeps it as infrequent as possible for his own personal safety –
Mush Mush…………
