Runescape Classic – Last Call……

Justin asked how to get on Runescape Classic. I also had to go check out how long we have left to try it out……
November 25, 2009 is the last day to give it a whirl.
Just click the link above to try it.

Remember, it is the basic game that modern Runescape was built on so it will definitely be different for those who never tried it while it was online. Only members can try it for now – sorry – but Jagex has plans for it so don’t be surprised if it is offered in a different venue relatively soon. I, personally, have a fondness for it in spite of its slowness and 2D look and feel.

On my first day of NEW Runescape, I was killed twice – sigh…. So much changed and I didn’t have very much experience playing online games at that time. Also, I remember not being able to find things at first and having trouble moving my character around. To be honest, Runescape still had some old rules in place, like you couldn’t walk through anyone else’s character so there were hugeeeeeeeeeeee bottlenecks at the banks and in the market square where everyone used to sell by typing out what they wanted to buy or sell. Talk about a mess! I think we still had to stand in line waiting for a banker to be free at first but that’s a hazy memory. It’s slow and difficult but still……… I like it…… strangely…….

Smelting gold with the Gold Smith gauntlets is terrific! I went from 624k to 400k yesterday!!!! I still have 1500 gold ore to smelt ……….

I’d like to discuss merchant clans for just a second…… I have been watching one clan in particular but I suspect all the clans are about the same. The leaders of any given merchant clan decides what the clan will work with. They tell you to buy whatever item they have chosen as fast as you can and as many as you can – usually at highest price – and then tell you to hold it until it hits a target price. Once it hits the target price, you are supposed to selll selllllll sellllllllll fast. The problem with that is since it probably already has an inflated price, the people holding all of that item have a problem even when every one cooperates. The truth is that usually some of the members of the clan, or the leaders themselves, sell well short of the goal while most of their members are still buying at high prices. When the rest of the clan tries to sell their inventory, they are usually stuck with it and eventually have to sell at much lower prices than they paid. It is seriously a scam! Not only that, for some reason, the GE works best if you re-list your for sale items when it resets in England – for Wisconsin (United States) that’s around 3 or 4 am – which makes it hard to be able to get rid of anything on a downslide. One ranked guy was yelling that the clan he is in scammed him out of 900mil!

I still haven’t been able to buy any raw pawya meat since the week the new extreme pots came out and it’s still climbing. (Over 1.3k gp each now!) Again, that’s why I am picking papayas with Giant Ents – so I can trap pawyas to use the meat to bait the Grenwall traps… Heck, it all adds to hunting xp!

Ok back to some smithing…….. Boombaye urged me to get that last mining level and I will. I just don’t want to burn out on mining since it is one of my fav skills. I still feel strangely lost without my daily farming tasks……. sigh……….. I am cutting willow branches every day and a couple of times a day for Summoning – Giant Ent pouches. That’s the easiest second for use with green charms for higher xp. Of course, I use them all the time for papayas, too – for now. It helps the most to do things that give by-products for future xp – I just can not stand power anything. I did some ivies…… nothing to use afterwards but I do have 99 woodcut so it will come in handy when I want to push the high score – possibly……

I am not sure but…….. it might be that making cannon balls is the tiniest bit faster than it used to be…….. Since it makes me grind my teeth when I have to do those without a book or movie to watch, I just always feel it takes way too long to make those. I hate buying them, too. When you clock the time for xp, no way is cannonball making worth doing for smithing xp! It’s good gp if you want to sell them – I suppose – or good gp savings if you want to make them for yourself. Anyway – I don’t know for sure. If anyone has noticed a speed up in smelting them, too, please let me know. I wouldn’t mind doing a couple k of them now and then.

Under 300k to a smithing level……….. plodding back and forth to the furnace in Edgeville to make all those addy bars – zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz gp will be good zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….

Added note – Jagex wants to add Elite tasks to all the Achievement Diaries…… I say – Yes! Give me a challenge! It may bug me that I haven’t done that Elite portion of the Ardougne Achievement Diary but I’ve been saving things up to do Summoning with to get the levels I need to finish it and I love it! (My other goal was to be able to do Unicorns.)

MARALAINE I HAVE A QUESTION MY RS CHARACTER IS RANKED 454K BEST OR SOMEWHERE AROUND THERE AND MY HIGHEST SKILLS ARE FISHING AND WOODCUTTING HOW LONG DO YYOU THINK IT WOULD TAKE ME TO GET 99 FROM 80 FISH AND WOODCUTT AND ALL I HAVE IS THE WEEKENDS TO WORK ON THIS BUT I REALLY WANT 99 CRAFT GOOD MONEY

I’ll concentrate on crafting first – if you can make orbs, get to a point where you can use the Lunar spell to make glass. If you aren’t high enough to do battlestaffs, do flax spinning. I don’t know where you’re at in crafting, but any gold use gets best xp doing amulets of each gem. Also, making dragon hide bodies is fantastic for crafting xp for each color and fast – once you have a ton of hides tanned and ready to do. Blue dragon hides are probably the easiest to get, especially if you can go into the ogre cave in Yanille. Doing those air battlestaffs is definitely helping my high score in crafting and seems the quickest thing to do if you get your sand, seaweed, and battlestaffs every day.

As far as woodcut and fishing – I don’t cut the highest tree I can because it’s not as fast. I do yews most of the time because of the extra benefits – more gp or xp depending on what I want to do with them. Maples are fast and great for burning – Northwest of Seers by the tracks…. take a knife with a tinder and fletch here and there, then drop, for added xp to another skill. (I burned because I had to use the click to drop each anyway – might as well get xp for it!)

Timewise – I don’t know………. depending on what you want to work on – because each skill has different speeds of xp per hour no matter what you work with to get the xp. Prayer takes a lot longer than other things unless you buy the bones – which I don’t. Runecrafting takes forever. Gathering and spinning flax is fast relatively. I never concentrated on getting one skill at a time – the more xp I get with every action the better! I loved cutting, picking flax, spinning, fletching, making bows, then high alking them for hours on end in Gnome stronghold near the south entrance gate – never had to bank – but you can see I got lots of xp in many skills fluidly and without having to run for anything extra.
